Rylan’s New Room

Well, it happened! Rylan moved upstairs to his  new room. If you’ve been following along, you know that we were hesitant to move Rylan upstairs and had considered having him and Sofia share his previous room. We have three bedrooms on the main level (master included) and another large bedroom and office upstairs. But, we ultimately decided we would move him upstairs and he would share his room with the current playroom. So here it is, details on Rylan’s new (big kid) room!

He wanted a hunting themed room (like father, like son haha). So, we went ahead with that theme, in a way that also makes mommy’s design heart happy! We already had the platform bed (I’ve linked a similar one below) and the dresser and nightstand. The dresser is from Babies R Us and the nightstand is from Raymour and Flanigan (both of which are no longer available, sorry).

The room is really large and so that is why we decided it would still be used as a playroom as well. It is split up pretty well, allowing for two purposes in one space! Rylan is loving his new room and I am loving that he is sleeping well up there (that is what worried me).

Purchases I made to complete the space…

The decals are from Etsy.

The knobs are from Hobby Lobby!

The bedding is from Amazon!

Some of you have asked how I design a space as far as layout and decor. So I thought I would do my best to explain here. I, first, think about what pieces will stay. Once I have that decided, I move onto layout. I create a board (on the computer) with my ideas. The last pieces I add to my board are my decor items. I always think of budget first and I always shop Hobby Lobby first (because it is so inexpensive). I always go with “less is more.” Meaning, I don’t like to overcrowd a room or overstimulate it. I like clean and simple for the most part. And I aim for practicality. I use pieces that work for the space and it’s primary purpose.

I may actually begin to offer an e-design service soon. I am still deciding on this and am not sure how many people would be interested in my services. But this would basically involve clients sending me their room and telling me what they are looking for. From there I would create an e-board and provide links to every item used in the e-board for you to create the space using these items! I will update as I think longer and harder about this possibility!!
